Rules

Here at 52stories we prefer to keep the rules to a minimum. You mind your manners, we’ll mind ours, and everyone will get along just fine. However, a complete lack of rules and administratum often leads to anarchy, inefficiency, and — even worse — lots of work for us. So here come the rules:

Story Submissions: Story submissions are due each Friday by 5:00PM PST. Click on the ‘Submit your story’ tab along the top of the page, enter your information, and simply paste your story directly into the form. Submissions received after 10:00 PM Friday are considered late and will not be published until that week’s issue goes into archive (the next week). Sorry folks, but we had to draw the line somewhere. This gives you a five hour leeway which is more generous than most college-level lit classes. Also note that the editors may reject submissions based on inappropriate or offensive content.

Picture Submissions: We are not accepting photo submissions - yet. Stay tuned for more news about this.

Plagiarism: Please send us your own work. As the author, you are responsible for ensuring that the content you submit has not been pilfered from some other poor, unsuspecting writer. 52stories is not to be held responsible for unknowingly publishing the plagiarized work of any author. 52stories never knowingly publishes plagiarized work. By submitting a story you claim authorship, and agree to hold us harmless against any moral, legal, or physical action that might arise as a result of the work submitted.

Rights: By submitting your story, you grant 52stories one-time electronic rights to publish the story in that week’s issue, and to maintain a copy in the archives. You retain all other rights and, if you submit one along with your text, your copyright notice will appear with the story. If you re-publish the piece later, please acknowledge that it was first published in 52stories. We strongly encourage you to visit the Creative Commons website, and learn more about protecting your work.

Privacy: We hate spam. We hate spammers. However, e-mail is the primary means for 52stories to communicate with authors who submit stories. Your e-mail address and other contact information is strictly confidential and used only by 52stories and is not provided to others (including agents, editors, etc.) without your express permission. In addition to submission notification and publication correspondence, authors may occasionally be sent announcements pertaining to 52stories, such as publication of issues or calls for submissions. If you don’t want to receive this stuff, let us know and we’ll remove you from our mailing list.
